It did not take long to greenlight a follow-up to Denis Villeneuve’s Dune. Fabulous Filmland has verified plans to release Dune Part Two, saying it was” agitated to the continue the trip.”The plant expects the movie to premiere October 20th, 2023, and it’s safe to presume Part Two will cover the aft half of Frank Herbert’s classic novel.
The move is not shocking. Villeneuve easily wanted to finish telling Paul Atreides’ story, but the movie also fared better than anticipated. Deadline noted that Dune racked up$ 41 million at the domestic box office during its opening weekend. That is not as strong as pictures like Shang-Chi ($71.4 million) and a far cry frompre-pandemic openings, but it’s the stylish opening for a WarnerBros. movie with contemporaneous theatrical and HBO Max releases this time.
It’s not yet clear how much the HBO Max launch helped (or hindered) Drift’s theatrical premiere. Still, Villeneuve will not have to worry about a contemporaneous streaming release for Part Two. WarnerBros. is returning to theater-first openings starting in 2022. Like it or not, you will have to defy the crowds and buy tickets if you contend on watching the follow-up as soon as possible.
