While you may wish to have all the time in the world on your hands to move from one place to another, sometimes, this is simply not possible. If you have a last-minute move on your hands, you need to be fully prepared for it. There are several ways to do this, and we are going to be looking at a few of them in a closer level of detail right here and now.
Plan Out the Logistical Challenges
Simply throwing all your stuff into boxes as quickly as possible is not going to do you much good at all. Instead, you are much better off actually planning for the logistical challenges that you have in front of you. This means seeking out delivery truck loads, coordinating when they will pick up your things, and ensuring that you have chosen a reputable company or driver. You should also coordinate when you are going to get the keys to the new place, pass over the ones for your current property, etc. This will help everything to go a lot smoother.
Clear Away Things You Do Not Need
Instead of taking the time to pack up all those items that you simply do not need, you may as well get rid of these items. You have a couple of main choices here. You could give things away to a charity shop, recycle them, or simply throw them away entirely. This will help to lighten your load and ensures that there is no decluttering that needs to be done at your new property. You may also be able to give some things away using websites like Freecycle. This is particularly useful with larger items like furniture, which would otherwise be a logistical nightmare to have to move.
Don’t Allow Valuables to Break
While you may be packing in a hurry, this is not an excuse to allow your valuables to get broken or lost. To start off with, it is a good idea to compile a moving essentials bag. You should fill this up with anything that is going to be particularly useful or important at your new place. Even if you do not have all of the packing products to keep your items properly protected at the moment, you can still use things like socks and towels to keep it all intact.
Ask for Help
Moving home represents a significant undertaking, and it is certainly worth getting help whenever and wherever this is possible and needed. Friends and family members are certainly going to come in useful here. However, there are some tasks that are worth leaving to the movers rather than doing by yourself. You may as well get your money’s worth, after all.
While a last-minute move may be less than ideal, if you go about it in the right way, this can really make all the difference in ensuring that it all goes without a hitch and that you settle into your new place in no time.
